Hazrat Syed Ahmed Kabeer Rifai

Died: 578 AH - (1183 CE)

Aḥmad ibn ʽAli al-Rifa'i was a Sunni Muslim preacher, ascetic, mystic, jurist & theologian, known for being the eponymous founder of the Rifaʽi tariqa of Islam. He gave courses in Hadith, Fiqh & Tafsir everyday except for Monday & Thursday. He sat in his pulpit afternoons on Monday & Thursday & preached to intellectuals & the public. The Rifa'i order had its greatest following until it was overtaken by the Qadiri order. The Rifa'i order is most commonly found in the Arab Middle East but also in Turkey, the Balkans & South Asia.

His tomb & shrine is located at a mosque bearing his namesake in Al-Rifai, a town at southern Iraq near Baghdad.
